Create irresistible cocktails at home like a pro.

Three recipes created by Nic & Tim from The Buckriders© to do at home, right now!

I met those two some few years ago in a wedding, no surprise I know. While we were discussing, they literally create a yummy drink with what they had, and I’ve been fool enough to believe and taste the mixture. I have been blown away. It was delicious, fresh and surprising.I am beyond excited to be able to offer you those three recipes.  To know what to expect, I attached a photo of the recipes.

COCKTAIL #1 | SMOKED MANHATTAN

A smokey cocktail is delicious, but it also looks amazing! Of course, you can also make this drink without the smoke.

Ingredients

  • 60 ml Woodford bourbon
  • 30ml Red vermouth (Carpano’s Antica Formula or Martini Rosso)
  • 1 bar spoon of maraschino cherry juice.

We use Luxardo or Armarena Fabbro

Method

Combine all the ingredients in a mixing glass or a jug filled with ice, stir for about 30 seconds and serve in a chilled coupe glass. Garnish with 1 or 2 maraschino cherries on a tooth pick.

Smoke

When smoking the drink, simply ignite a small pile of hickory wood and place a coupe glass directly over them. Allow to sit while you combine the drink.

COCKTAIL #2 | PALOMA

A delicious and refreshing cocktail you can drink any time of the year!

Ingredients

  • 40 ml tequila
  • 20ml lime juice
  • 30ml grapefruit juice
Top with soda water

Method

Shake all ingredients except the soda water and double strain in a collins glass filled with ice, garnish with a slice of grapefruit and a salt rim.

COCKTAIL #3 | MAZU

We created this Asian inspired cocktail in 2018 and it has been one of our favorite drinks ever since!

Ingredients

  • 60 ml Nikka Whisky
  • 15ml yuzu juice
  • 15ml lime juice
  • 15ml agave syrup
  • Egg white

Method

Dry shake all ingredients then shake again with ice and double strain in chilled coupe glass. Garnish with matcha tea powder.

Tips & explanations

Shaker

If you don’t own a shaker then use a kilner jar, for example, or any container with a tight lid. Simply add the ingredients with ice and shake for about 10 seconds.

Bar spoon

A bar spoon is a long-handled spoon used in bartending for mixing.

Chilling a glass

While you combine the ingredients, you can either fill a glass with ice and discard the ice before serving, or wet a glass and place it in the freezer.

Double strain

To double strain, place your regular strainer in/on the cocktail shaker and hold a fine mesh strainer by its handle over your glass.

Here a short list of what you have to consider to make your wedding unique

I know! Destination weddings are the best way to celebrate your love, and let’s face it : they are the best weddings, ever!

When time comes to set up your wedding budget, consider these tremendous lavish expenses that will enhance your destination wedding, ever! (did you notice that i have this specific linguistic tic ? “ever” – this is when I really really really insist – sorry for this! ^^)

And even when some couples say “hum.. we don’t have any maximum to spend”. My answer is always.. Nah!! Even Beyoncé is working on her budget when she has to invest in a lifetime experience! So please…

Here a short list of what you really have to consider to have your destination wedding experience to the next level of memories and happiness.

#1 | Plan a welcome party

Your guests travelled to come and to party with you. How lovely it is to plan a very welcoming moment for and with them, isn’t it? Then, once you are familiar with the idea, you can imagine to plan a very casual dinner, with some music in the background (lounge or chill-out style are preferred).

Cherry on the top: do it in a different location where your wedding will take place. Keep it secret until the last moment. And if onsite, ask your wedding-planner to organise a complete transformation to wow the guests on your Big day!

#2 | Don’t skip the welcome bags!

You nailed it! You are the most thoughtful bride your friends will ever have! Keep local treasures in mind to place in a beautiful basket. How about organising a French “en-cas” when planning your destination wedding in South of France: Here, in this wicker basket, we had some french cheese + bottle of Rosé + French crispy baguette + Fleur de sel + local olive oil and a butter-knife. And to ornate it at perfection, we add a generous armful of Lavender! We asked the hotels to provide the Wine-glasses and to keep fresh the bottle of Rosé until the last minute. Before the guests checked-in! Final touch: prepare a hand-writting welcome letter and indulge yourself!

#3 | Hire a videographer

All wedding-planners will tell you: void this line of budget is purely a big-big-mistake. Photos are bar to none! Add the video and your memories will last for ever! Bonus tip: choose a videographer whose style fits the photographer’s one.

#4 | Be ready to arrive days before your friends!

This is your selfish moment. And don’t think anyone will blame you for it. Take time to scout around, to meet with the vendors your destination-wedding and you booked months before! Then, take time to get your habits there. The idea is that you could feel like a real local, insider!

#5 | Cover the costs for some of your guests.

You chose a far-far-away destination, and you know some of your siblings won’t be able to pay for the trip.  Flights or lodging, or both! It’s a huge splurge, but having this lavish expenses will allow you to celebrate with the ones you love most! And.. in a way.. it is priceless!

How to explore ways to make your dessert unique with your
cake-designer.

Your wedding-cake will be the cornerstone of your whole ambiance and scenery. You always dream about it, and you know you can spend hours on Pinterest to pin lavish, sumptuous, or simple gorgeous wedding cakes.

As you grew up knowing that you were special, you know your wedding-cake has to be special too. How to make yours special ?

Cake designers are creative and with your wedding-planner, you will do perfection. How to, right now, through the work of Catherine Pierard, French cake-designer at Made in cake .
Catherine is the go-to girl when speaking of wedding-cakes! She’s talented, but more than that she is a real foodie. She decided to change her carrier and turned into a cake-designer’s life. Here what she is able to create. Always tailored-made.

#1 | Master the flavors!

Creating your wedding-cake is a great opportunity to create your perfect combo of flavours and colours. A wedding cake is a combination of sponge, cream and sometimes ganache. Below some of the most famous flavors praised by brides-and-grooms-to-be.

Sponge: Vanilla, Chocolate, Lemon, Almond, Hazelnut, Praline, Pistachio, Coconut, Red, Velvet, Carrot.

Cream:Vanilla, Chocolate, Lemon, Raspberry, Strawberry, Mango, Exotic Fruits, Passion Fruit, Coffee, Caramel, Cream Cheese. Ganache: Dark Chocolate, Milk Chocolate, White Chocolate.

#2 | Fresh flowers vs Sugar flowers

From my perspective, and it is based on my wedding-planner’s experience with couples, the choice is very, very very personal. Sugar is not fundamentally better than fresh flowers. It is only a fact of taste and wish of styling. Whatever you choose the results will only be visual. If you plan an organic destination wedding : bet on fresh flowers, fresh fruits, fresh leaves. You will have to face sanitarian issues but your professional cake designer will face it, very easily. Not all flowers can be in contact with the sugar paste of your gorgeous wedding-cake. Lastly, fresh components are cheaper than sugar ones. If you plan an elegant and/or preppy destination wedding, you should better bet with some sugar decor. Bear in mind that some cake designers are not trained to do beautiful sugar flowers. So be sure the professional you choose will manage this kind of design if you are in love with sugar flowers. If not, please ask for some fresh flowers and please, please, please : do not do anything plastic. One last thing never never never mix fresh and sugar flowers it’s a faute-de-goût,  definitely!

#3 | Make it yours and unique!

Pinterest is fantastic. I know. But I also believe Pinterest is a creative killer. OMG – did I really write this? Yes, I did. 9 times out of 10 – not to say 10 – lovely brides-to-be arrive with Pinterest’s screenshot on their iPhone and tell me – or Catherine : “I want this one”. We can say: sure! We should say: really? We are saying : ok, let’s do this. But I really think it’s a mistake. Let us be creative! You are special, right? Don’t get any copy of anything. Inspiration is hard. It’s hard not to copy. And to make it yours, just be creative. Combine your ideas.

Hey! Rule your fiancé! Brainstorm about the wedding cake.

How many layers?

Does it have to be in the theme of your wedding?

Is the wedding-cake a masterpiece your guests have to admire all reception long?

Let’s draw your ideal wedding-cake. Just envisage the tastes you want to eat. Now envisage the design, and then finish with ornements. Escape from Pinterest, and work closer your wedding-planner and cake-designer: I can already hear your wedding-cake thank you for your determination to create it in an unique way.

#4 | Ask the expert!

Are you still hesitating between a wedding-cake and a pastry gourmandises buffet ? Catherine strongly believe in the wow effect of your special wedding-cake. “Do you really think desserts as mignardises for example, even served in the most beautiful dessert plate ever, can impact the wow effect a wedding cake can create? Bear in mind you hire a fantastic photographer, a virtuose videographer: such a shame if they don’t have anything to capture for “Cut-the-cake” moment, isn’t it?” Thank you Catherine for your sharing.

All you need to know to nurture your relationship with your
wedding-planner.

We can easily read everywhere that you (the bride-to-be) and your destination wedding planner will be the BFF – mean by Best Friends for ever.

Sorry to annihilate your illusions, but you signed a contract together, and as friendly and devoted your destination wedding planner is, you will definitely enjoy her professionalism instead her friendship. At least up to your wedding. Once your wedding done, you have all the latitude to let your heart speaks. I personally have real friends who were first clients. That’s the way it goes: we were meant to meet.

Anyway.. confessions to your destination wedding planner

As a  destination wedding is very different to manage, you have to keep in mind that some topics have to be discussed to ensure a good relationship and a fantastic destination wedding.

#1 | Where your guests are coming from?

Welcoming your guests and providing the perfect she scheduling for them is one of the top priority of your destination wedding-planner.

Your childhood friend is now living in London for more 14 years? Fantastic. But I can predict that your husband-to-be’ s cousin from Johannesburg will have a different biologoical rythm, related to the time zone. But also due to the length of their trip to join their wedding.

With these information, your destination wedding-planner will be deeper in the timeline’s precision of your big day. The cocktail hour and the wedding dinner will be differently shaped from a classical local wedding. confessions to your destination wedding planner

#2 | What scares you most?

This is the ABC of your relationship. You have to say what scares you the most.

Your destination wedding-planner is committed to help you not to stress – I mean reasonably.

If you stress in your daily life, all year long for everything, your destination wedding-planner will not perform miracles. A psychologist will! Enough with the jokes. Seriously, as many brides-to-be – and its classic and normal – you may have one (or more) big point that scares you.

JUST TELL it to your destination wedding-planner. You scare that your guests will not mingle enough? #Justtell !

You scare about the weather? Just tell!

You scare about your guests will find the trip to complicated? #Justtell

Your destination wedding-planner will perform miracles. This time! Yes to confessions to your destination wedding planner!

#3| What scares your husband-to-be most?

Same thing, same reasons, same issues. With the only differences that Men are coming from Mars and women from Venus. Meaning that your scares are without fail not the same ones. #JustTell

#4| What is your ultimate dream?

Time to perform miracles! confessions to your destination wedding planner Your destination wedding-planner is a genius. An expert of weddings, an expert of the area AND thanks her/his experience of the past years, she/he will : at least guide you to find a solution to adapt if not possible, and at best, make it happen. Trust me: 8 out of 10, she/he will perform! #JustTell

#5| It’s going to fast for me!

You agreed with the yearly planning that your destination wedding-planner. But you choke. No time to give to achieve your tasks, make your decisions. Just tell. Maybe, with all the excitement that made you thrill at the beginning you underestimate your availabilities, or, more simply, your job change and you have to make things differently. confessions to your destination wedding planner #JustTell ! Plannings are made to evolved. This is one the super-power that your destination wedding-planner has!

#6| I would love the process to go faster!

  • You learnt the process by heart! You look at your calendar each morning, each night and you despair of the time is going to slowly! For pity’s sake, trust the planning! Meaning the planning created specially for you by your destination wedding planner.

Making decisions need time

– Developing ideas need time

– Learning from you need time

– Learning from your destination wedding planner need time

– Making your wedding very unique need time. Although these [good reasons] #JustTell your destination wedding planner that you are feeling a little bit overwhelmed about the process.

As a pro, he/she will have the answer and words of comfort! #JustTell

#7| You love your destination wedding-planner!

#JustTell ! Even if its a professional relationship that you signed for, you will never avoid feelings. HOPEFULLY.

And if you love your destination wedding-planner, just tell!

It will never represent weakness from you. Neither this avowal will let loosestrife happens. And guess what: even if your destination wedding-planner is a perfect professional, and knows how to manage all the tasks, her/his only stress is to disappoint you. Managing a perfect dinner, managing a perfect procession for your ceremony, managing the best suppliers.. The stress has nothing relating with theses points. But only with you. Make you happy, overwhelmed above all! Expectation’s’ satisfaction are so personal > this is the unique stress she/he can have. So.. you love her/him >> #JustTell !

You’ll see: it will also a surprise when she/he will open your heart also. #GoodVibes above all!

For more than 10 years in the destination wedding business, travelling the world for weddings, Muriel is France based, but has also rocked in Italy few years ago.

Why you need a specialized wedding-planner when planning you destination- wedding.

As today it’s not only trendy to work with a wedding planner to organize your wedding, we now know that it is now absolutely mandatory to work with a wedding planner who is an expert in destination wedding, when you plan a get away.

Where ever you decided to get married away from home, the question of the planning comes immediately.

Then, come three steps of reflexion:
« Do I have to look for a wedding planner who is living near me? – Do I have to look for a wedding planner on the location of the wedding? – And when I find the answer, do I need an expert in destination wedding, or not? »
As I am convinced my mission is to give you the whole informations to help and guide you as carefully as I can, let’s check together the pros and cons of each approach.

Can I hire a wedding-planner who is not on the wedding location?

For sure you can.

You will build a day to day relationship as you are in the same area, with no time zone to manage. You will spend time together so your wedding planner will have time to discover you deeply.

Be careful: Wedding planners are professionals, not best friends you can call each day and nights. Refer to the contract you signed with him/her. Wedding planners are caring and friendly by nature. But as they offer many different services, if you want to be entirely ( and emotionally) supported while the process, hire the wedding planner for a full service planning.

All services are professionals. While your wedding planner is not on the location, you are take the risk of he/she will not know each secret treasures of the area you choose with your lover, your soul mate. The wedding planner will have to make new connections with new local professionals to create the wedding of your dreams. As professionals, most of them can feel comfortable with this way of working. And others, really do not!

When you contact the wedding planner for an inquiry, be honest.

    • Tell him/her everything single things you have in mind for your wedding. Do not try to arrange him/her to be friendly. The first contact, the first approach is the most important for your upcoming work together.
    • Ask him/her if travels are included. If so, is he/she planning to go there before the wedding, how many times, with or without you…
    • Ask the wedding planner the tools he/she’s working with.
    • Does he/she use medias, phone, text, mails to have exchanges? Is it 24 hours a day or is the relationship is based on a strict number of appointments? So, you now know: just ask, ask, ask!

Then if he/she doesn’t the place, it is not crippling. A wedding planner must have a wide network. The main thing is that he/she must tell you when it is not possible for him/her to cover the area you are looking for. It is not a bad or bungler wedding planner. Quite the opposite, he/she is honest.

Tips: ask this wedding planner whether he/she can introduce you to a wedding planner on your destination wedding area. Being recommanded facilitates connexions.

Is it better for a couple to hire a wedding-planner on their wedding destination?

Definitely, you made the choice to live smoothly your wedding planning experience. And you are right!

The first great decision you made was to get married, the second one is to hire a wedding planner. Being secured, this is why you both decided to hire a wedding planner.

Feel comfortable to work with a professional who is not living near you. Looking for a local wedding planner is a great choice. Because it is easy for her/him to create and build the wedding you are dreaming of on her/his land.

The local wedding planner knows the place. He/she also works with a network daily. He/she knows the treasure of his/her land. All the best things of the area? Your local wedding planner will know what to offer you. How to customize your dreamed wedding.

Tip: please, pay attention about the difference of a wedding planner in a venue and an independant wedding planner. The Venue’s wedding planner is more a coordinator of the reception as the independant wedding planner will handle all the sides (even the darkest ones) of your wedding planning. For sure, the fisrt one knows exactly how to take advantage of the hotel or restaurant you choose for your wedding. But maybe this will not be as customizable or original as you could wish. The independant Wedding planner is all of this: unique and different weddings each time.

Left one last question: how about my guests, the accomodations, the travels, touring…

Why destination wedding planner are ultimate specialists for your getaway?

These last years, we have seen the appearance of destination wedding planners experts.

It’s not a secret: more than 30% of couple decided in 2014 to get married away from home. Depending the country, this percentage is much higher. When you think about the United States of America, a couple living in Wisconsin who is getting married in Florida, made the choice of destination wedding.

A destination wedding planner is an expert about your wedding for sure, but also for accomodations, making travelling your guests, tours organizing. The destination wedding planner is an expert of every single details that builds your wedding away. Travelling with 10 or 120 guests is the same thing to handle. Not for your money, of course, but the same thing to organize for this expert. Your destination wedding planner knows perfectly how people react when they are jet-lagged, so he/she will guide you about the scheduling of your big day, about the best day for your guest arrivals. Adults, kids, babies.. Everything.

Then, the greatest thing to live with your destination wedding planner ? He/she looooves travelling. Everything is possible for him/her. He can also say « NO ». He/she your best friend ever. Last thing to know about destination wedding plannersexperts: they are geek! > Viber, WhatsApp, Skype, Facetime, timezone managing.. nothing scared him/her! So.. what are you expecting from your wedding planning experience?

For sure, the best one ever!

Breathe deeply, sip your fave drinks, and tap the screen down to follow our tips.

Congratulations ! You made the decision for a destination wedding because it is one of your dream. And, you already have an idea about how your dreamed wedding dress will be…
Not to mention you don’t want to become a bridezilla ( don’t you ? :p ) here are few and very interesting topics about How to choose your bridal dress for your destination wedding and travel with it ?
Breathe deeply, sip a good soft drink and tap the screen of your Ipad to follow the instructions below.

First: choose your destination then its period

Yes, that seems weird, but not that much:)

Because it is easy to take things back to front and to put itself sticks in its own wheels, you should not especially limit yourself in term of urge for destination because of the logistics, and thus the bridal dress !

How to choose your bridal dress for your destination wedding and travel with it ?

Without having to leave your native area, the run up for a wedding always starts by the search for the venue.

For a destination wedding, it is quite the same matter.

Determining element: in which period of the year the destination you choose is most beautiful for you ? Make the most of it : you have the power right now ! Hints and tips : think about the ceremony. If the place is steep or difficult to access, think of an easy and light dress. If the path for the ceremony is narrow, forget the side  “Empress Sissi” .

No need to choose a local colored dress

To get married for example in Provence, does not mean wanting a dress in printed matters of cicadas or lavender (OMG!).

Quite as getting married in New York does not necessarily means getting married in 5-inchees-high-heels as Carrie Bradshaw ( to go down many Parks with 5 inches heels is downright suicidal,  » I swear it on Chanel© « ).

Choose your bridal dress according to whom you are ! Just think about how your tender husband-to-be would love to discover you.

And remember one last thing : the photos ! Photos will last for ever ! Even beyond four generations of children. Choose a bridal dress you feel free to dance with, to move, and to walk ! Just like the way you are, deeply !

Where to buy your bridal dress for your Destination Wedding?

Wherever your destination wedding takes place, it will be difficult to find a designer or a wedding gowns shop that could suits to you there.

You will have to make several attempts, several retouches. And this, until the last minute to have the most beautiful fitted bridal dress.

There are several ways to plan where to find your bridal dress :

Near You : Choose a vendor or a designer who is very easy to meet if you do not have time enough (and money) to travel often as far as to meet him. It will be easy to create good relations, to touch materials, to discuss with the vendor or the designer.

On the area : You can fix that option if you want to be fully integrated to the culture, and if you plan to go on the spot 2 times before the wedding. It’s clearly enough for a designer to create the perfect gown that fitted you!

On the Web : you saw the only bridal dress of your dream via internet. Which disaster ! How can I manage the thing if the dress does not fit me at all ? Keep calm and breathe deeply ! Designers on the web, exactly knows how to do that ! They have specific policies – be sure to read them all – and they work fast. Make sure to have a skype appointment – to e-meet him (or her). So you can connect easier and you can build safe relationships of trust. Ask about the time for delivery. And go ahead !

Let yield to this incredible temptation : your perfect bridal dress.

How to travel with my bridal dress?

Yes ! This is about getting anxious, isn’t it ?

Did you only already wait for your luggage at the airport, by watching disentangling luggage on carpets? Unfancy for your bridal dress – Oh YES! Clearly unfancy ! Good piece of news: ALL the companies today accept that you travel with your bridal dress by plane. Your bridal dress is considered as a hand luggage. Packed in its cover, stewart and stewardess will be pleased and excited to hang on your bridal dress affectedly in a specific place, even one of their wardrobe. Stewardesses are always under the charm by a couple which travels for its wedding. And moreover, who would dare not to be ?

Hints and Tips #1: Place a call to the airline to tell them you will carry on your bridal dress. So they prevent the Chief Stewardess and she will take care of you and your precious dress. Hint and Tips #2: think about the hanger. It can not be wire hangers. Going through the security gates could raise you problem. Choose a type of steam-pressing which can be requisitioned easily, or a wooden hanger. You will facilitate the mission of the stewardess which will take care of your dress. Close your eyes, be relaxed..

Nothing more to do before you land on the dreaming destination you chose.
