Bastide du Roy has a long history on the French Riviera.
The estate is associated with the royal history of Antibes and, according to the property’s historical account, dates back to the late 16th century. It later became part of the heritage of Jeanne Lanvin and the Polignac family, who transformed the property during the 1920s.
Between 1927 and 1929, the architect Louis Süe worked on the bastide while landscape architect Jean-Claude-Nicolas Forestier designed the gardens. The resulting ensemble remains one of the property’s defining features today. The French Ministry of Culture describes the gardens as one of Forestier’s last works and his only creation in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region.
The gardens themselves are now protected as historic heritage, and their history remains an important part of the character of the estate.
